The controversial Kumawood star Nana Kofi Agyeman, who goes by the nickname Oboy Siki, has publicly criticized well-known figures from Kumasi-based media—Auntie Naa, Mama Effe, and Oheneni Adazoa—for their content on the radio.

During a recent interview, the seasoned comedian voiced his opposition to married couples appearing on radio programs to air their relationship problems in front of talk-show hosts.

Oboy Siki asserted that relationship talk shows used to be sensible and worthwhile back then when Mama Effe initiated her show in the Ashanti Region several years ago. However, he believes they’ve veered off course ever since Auntie Naa and Oheneni Adazoa took over hosting their respective programs on Oyerepa FM and Sompa FM.

A Kumawood performer urged the Asante people to become more discerning and prevent Auntie Naa, Mama Effe, and Oheneni Adazoa—whom he alleged hail from different parts of Ghana—from damaging the reputation of the Ashanti Region through their performances.

He observed that Maame Dokono handled marital issues differently on her television program several decades back compared to how modern talk show hosts address these topics today.

Oboy Siki charged that media personalities are exploiting their relationship talk shows to spread misinformation and take advantage of the susceptible people who share their personal issues on these programs.

He argued that personalities such as Auntie Naa, Mama Effe, and Ohenendi Adazoa ignite unwarranted conflict through their radio programs rather than assisting couples in addressing problems within their respective love affairs and marital unions.

The comedic performer asserted that spouses would be more advisable to address their marriage problems with their relatives and opt for divorce instead of appearing on those relational dialogue programs on the radio.

Oboy Siki, consumed with anger, demanded that relationship talk show hosts cease featuring guests to debate their matrimonial problems on air. He asserted that both the hosts and guests ought to join him and his peers in the acting industry if they wished to turn their radio programs into venues purely for amusement.

He stated that numerous Ghanaians residing overseas were overlooking their relatives in Ghana and instead contributing large sums of money to people featured on relationship talk shows.

Over the past few years, Ghana has experienced a surge in relationship talk shows on both radio and television, particularly within the Ashanti region. Here, hosts such as Auntie Naa, Mama Effe, and Oheneni Adazoa have achieved significant fame through their respective programs.

The trio of personalities has gathered a huge fan base that tunes in to watch them address conflicts between couples and occasionally deliver dramatic rebukes for entertainment reasons.

Apart from tackling relationship and marriage issues, their radio programs have also addressed family disputes, conflicts over property, and paternity claims, as well as other challenges faced by different communities in Ghana.
