Obi Asika, an acclaimed creative artist and the Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture in Nigeria, has recently shared insights into some difficulties faced within the entertainment sector.

In addition, Obi shed light on Burna Boy’s encounters with gatekeeping prior to his rise to stardom.

“This same Burna Boy who is worth over a million dollars now used to get blocked; he hails from Port Harcourt, not Lagos, so they would often overlook him,” stated Obi Asika during the Afropilitan interview.

Obi Asika further disclosed that during that period, Burna Boy wasn’t offered the chance to perform without compensation.

“The same Burna Boy has surpassed everyone, made an impact, and now his progress cannot be halted,” he said.

In reaction to the interview, Burna Boy endorsed Obi Asika’s comment through the post. Additionally, he elaborated further on his experience, mentioning that even with his celebrity status, he continues to encounter gatekeeping issues.

“This isn’t nearly the whole tale. They went to extreme lengths to crush me, and they’re still giving it their all LOL, but what they actually achieved was igniting an unstoppable FLAME that will keep burning them forever.” he commented.

A Grammy-winning artist had previously opened up about the challenging beginning of their career path, and Asika’s latest disclosure has encouraged numerous other musicians to also share their personal journeys and struggles.
